New preprint on BioRxiv
Recently the lab has posted a new preprint from the lab on BioRxiv “Maladaptive nutrient signalling sustains the m.3243A>G mtDNA mutation”
Michael says ‘The work is the culmination of about 7 years’ work by a number of people largely led by my PhD student from Taiwan, Chih-Yao Chung, but including a succession of Masters and undergraduate project students. We have shown that a mtDNA mutation leads to activation of nutrient signaling pathways that sustain the mutation – interfering with those pathways pharmacologically reduces mtDNA mutant load and rescues mitochondrial function. We are very excited by this work – if one could recapitulate these findings in a patient, it would have a huge impact on horrible disease for which no treatment is available’.
